Celebrated wine writer and journalist Joelle Thomson has brought together eightteen movers, shakers and risk-takers of the New Zealand wine industry and invited them to talk about their achievements, their favourite wines and how they see the industry developing in the future. They make up a wild bunch, described by Joelle as 'philosophers, modernists, scientists, hedonists and party animals', and her collection makes for fascinating reading. All of them have had a powerful impact on New Zealand wine. After all, they have given us Sauvignon Blanc, exported wine around the world, introduced screw caps, pioneered biodynamic and organic winemaking, and spearheaded the production of Pinot Noir in the world's southernmost wine-growing region. And they continue to define the style, quality and value of New Zealand wine today. Joelle Thomson is one of New Zealand's foremost wine writers. She wrote her first wine column in 1994, and today is the wine writer for The Dominion Post in Wellington. She is the editor of Drinksbiz and contributes to New Zealand Wine Grower, among other publications. A wine educator at the NZ School of Food & Wine, Joelle has judged wine competitions in New Zealand and Australia, and is a member of the British-based Circle of Wine Writers. Her other books include Celebrating New Zealand Wine (New Holland 2004, a Montana Awards finalist and winner of a Gourmand Cookbook award) and the best-selling annual Wine Guide series (New Holland 1999-2005).
