Leslie Bav Baveystock flew second pilot aboard a Bomber Command Avro Manchester on the first 1000 bomber raid, was forced to jump and escaped occupied territory. He later flew with the No 201 Squadron, Coastal Command, where he sank two U-boats and a German armed blockade-runner.
