Norton: The Racing Story

Author(s): Mick Walker

No Category

Norton bikes have been raced from almost the very begining. The very first Norton, of 1902, was actively campaigned and in 1907 the company won their class and claimed third place int he first Isle of Man TT. Before the war, Norton were regular winners on the race circuits of Britain and Europe and these machines paved the way for the most famous Norton of them all - the Manx, which dominated motorcycle racing in the 1950s. Ridden by many of the world's most famous riders, and still an icon in the motorcycling world today, the Manx is a true classic. In 2002, the centenary year of the first Norton bike, the author celebrates the Norton racing bike. From the first racers to the ultimately ill-starred rotary racers of the 1980s, every bike is chronicled in detail.
